                                                              ----------------------------------------------

The population of the Municipality including the proposed Grama Panchayats comes to 2,00,432 with an area of 36.25 Sq.Kms.  Proddatur is a major Commercial center in Rayalaseema as well as in the State.  It is famous center for trading of Gold, Cotton, Rice, Ground-nut oil and other essential commodities.  The town is situated 13 Kms away from Mumbai-Chennai Railway line i.e., Yerraguntla Railway Station, 21 KMs away from the Tirupathi-Hyderabad Highway i.e., from Mydukur  and surrounded with famous Zuari Cement, Indian Cement factories, Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project.  There is Penna river flowing south side of the town.  K.C. Canal flows adjoining the town.   Moreover, the Proddatur town is one of the historical place in the State called as “Dakshina Kaasi” in view of ancient Lord Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple. There are several historical Temples, Mosques and Churches.  It is famous for celebrations of Dusserah (Vijaya Dasami) in the Country and said to be 2nd Mysore in the Country.   The main crops in the areas surrounding the Municipality are Rice, Ground-nut, Cotton, Sun flower etc.,  Therefore the Proddatur town is acting as Major Commercial Trading Centre in the State.

Regarding density of population in the Municipality is 21,099 per Sq.Km. and it is increasing day-to-day by virtue of growing population.

The Revenue income of the Municipality is Rs. 10.98 Crores in the year of 2003-2004.  Average income for the last three years comes to 9.77 Crores.  The percentage of population engaged in non-agricultural activities in the Municipality is 98%.

Further, I submit that the town consists several Ground-nut oil Industries, Cotton Zinning Factories, Solvent factories, Cotton Seed oil factories, Power-looms, Silk Twisting Mills, Rice Mills, and No.of Small Scale Industries.  These are plays very vital role in economic importance of the town and increase of the Revenue sources and it is a place for best commercial center for gold business, cotton, rice etc.,  There are much facilities for higher education namely Degree, P.G. Courses, Professional Courses i.e., Engineering, B.Ed., P.E.T., Oriental Teachers Training (Telugu).  Super Speciality medical falities are available in the town in Government Area Hospital, Private hospitals.  Adequate infrastructure  like Electricity, Water Supply, Road transportation, Banking facilities, Railway transportation facilities are available suitably for economic and industrial growth.

The peripheral villages (Statement enclosed) proposed are mostly merged with the Municipality.  If the villages vicinity to the Municipality are included in the Municipality, there are more chances for growth and expansion towards larger urban area in all aspects.  Maps showing the existing Municipal boundaries in one colour and Grama Panchayats proposed to be merged in different colour are herewith enclosed.

The council in it’s Resolution No. 8, dated 15.04.2006 resolved to upgrade Proddatur Municipality into the cadre of Municipal Corporation.

In view of the above circumstances, I request to kindly consider the above facts for taking further action in the matter.
